LeBron James has accomplished everything in his basketball career, but he has never been the flag bearer for the United States at an Olympic opening ceremony. That will change starting with the 2024 Paris Olympics.
Team USA has just announced it: the King has been selected for this immense honor. LeBron thus becomes the first male basketball player to be the flag bearer for the United States at the Olympics. Basketball players Dawn Staley and Sue Bird were given a similar honor in 2004 and 2021 respectively.
It’s official, LeBron is the USA flag bearer for the 2024 Paris Olympics!

In the endless list of LeBron James’ career accomplishments, we imagine that this one is not far from being at the top. It’s one thing to represent your country in the biggest international competition, it’s another to be the flag bearer.
“It’s special because it gives you the opportunity to represent your country in a different way. Being a flag bearer is a very prestigious moment, to be able to wave the flag not only for your national team but for all of the Olympians. It’s a huge honor.” – LeBron James
As a reminder, LeBron won two Olympic gold medals with Team USA (2008, 2012) and will try to get a third in Paris. In the NBA, the King has won four championship titles with four Finals MVP titles and four regular season MVP titles. He is also the leading scorer in NBA history, and has been named to the All-Star Game / All-NBA Team 20 times.
