While some owners of Primera División teams revealed that a new group of investors will arrive in Mexican soccer to resolve some issues, such as multi-ownership, today will begin the Apertura 2024 of the Liga Mx, where América will seek to become the first three-time champion in the history of short tournaments.

Both Miguel Ángel Gil, president of Atlético de San Luis, and Jesús Martínez, his counterpart at Grupo Pachuca, indicated that Liga MX and the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) plan for the owners to only own one team in the near future.

We have to adapt to policies that benefit football. One of the teams has to be sold, we have three years to do it, that is the objective that the federation has set, said Martínez at the Sports Summit.

Meanwhile, the Águilas will try to win their 16th league title in this tournament. To do so, they renewed the contracts of their top scorer Henry Martín and Brazilian coach André Jardine. In his first year of management, the coach achieved the double championship (Apertura 2023 and Clausura 2024), as well as the Campeón de Campeones and the Super Cup, so he will try to win a fifth consecutive title with the Coapa team.

The mission will not be easy, as the team lost one of its key players: Julián Quiñones, who will play for Al-Qadisiyah, from Saudi Arabia, and so far it has only announced one blockbuster signing, that of Erick Sánchez, from Pachuca.

In addition, the club brought in goalkeeper Rodolfo Cota, due to the injury of its first-choice goalkeeper, Luis Malagón, as well as Iván Rodríguez (both former members of León) and Carlos Vela’s nephew, Christo, who is set to play in the U-23 category.

The runner-up Cruz Azul, under the command of Argentine Martín Anselmi, will seek revenge, and to try to get its tenth league title, it signed Jorge Sánchez, who will return to Liga MX after his time at Ajax, the Greek Giorgios Giakoumakis (Atlanta United) and Andrés Montaño (Mazatlán). It also renewed the contracts of Uriel Antuna, Carlos Rodríguez and Rodrigo Huescas. It is speculated that Carlos Salcedo could leave the team for personal reasons; however, his departure has not yet been confirmed.

In this new tournament, the scarcity of Mexican coaches also stands out, as there will only be four: Ignacio Ambriz (Santos), Eduardo Fentanes (Necaxa), José Manuel de la Torre (Puebla) and Víctor Manuel Vucetich (Mazatlán).

While the Serbian Veljko Paunovic, former coach of Chivas, and the Colombian Juan Carlos Osorio, former coach of the Trireturned to Mexican soccer to manage Tigres and Xolos, respectively.

There will also be changes in the transmission of the matches, as some can only be seen via streamingsuch as Xolos and Querétaro, as local teams, which will be broadcast on Caliente TV.

Meanwhile, Chivas fans will be able to watch their matches through the Amazon platform, and Tigres changed its television network, so now its duels will be broadcast on Tv Azteca. The Vix Premium platform will also offer the public a large number of matches.

The curtain of the Apertura 2024 will rise today with the matches Puebla-Santos, Querétaro-Xolos, and FC Juárez-Atlas.
