The Argentine National Team will be in charge of starting the quarterfinals of the 2024 Copa América in a match that will be played at the NRG Stadium in Houston at 7:00 pm (Colombian time).
The Albiceleste team is coming off a good group stage where they beat Canada, Chile and Peru and will now look to take another step towards a title they want to keep.
Well, before the duel against the Ecuadorians, Lionel Scaloni spoke about this game and also got involved and named his favorites to win the Cup.
“It’s a very well-trained team, with good players and a good coach. Before the Cup began, I said that I had a real chance of being able to fight for it and I still think the same,” he said about Ecuador in a press conference.

And he added, comparing this match with the last friendly: “This is a different match and with different players. Every match has its own story. We watched that match again and thought it would be different. We can assure you that our way of playing will be the same.”
He then spoke about his Copa America candidates: “It is a very high-level Copa America, and Colombia, Uruguay, and Brazil can win it. Yesterday we saw a high-level match between Colombia and Brazil. I am not surprised by Uruguay’s performance.”
Scaloni also commented on the fact that Argentine coaches won all the groups: “It marks a good trend. South American teams always look up to Argentine coaches and I am happy because I know them, they are good people and it makes me feel very good.”
He was asked about his good run in knockout matches: “In the end, that statistic can be broken and we will have to start from scratch, but if you look at the historical statistics, Argentina wins more than it loses and I think that is where the issue lies. Tomorrow we will play the match as if it lasted 180 minutes.”
Finally, Scaloni referred to the criticism of Argentina for alleged refereeing advantage: “Today, anyone can write whatever they want on social media. I would be careful and in Qatar they said the same thing. When someone wins, there is a tendency to say that someone is being favoured. I cannot deny that a referee can make a mistake and it can happen. There are plays that are millimetric and human error continues to exist. We do not have the technology that we have in the Euro Cup with the automatic offside.”
