Lisa Tretnjak Shines at Junior European Cup with Second Place Finish

Lisa Tretnjak (-63/SU Noricum Leibnitz SU/ST) had to wait almost a year for a result. At the Junior European Cup in Slovenj Gradec (SLO/321 judoka/34 nations), the 19-year-old Styrian came back stronger than ever, made it to her first Junior European Cup final and ultimately took second place. On the way to the final, Tretnjak defeated Bianca Ungureanu (ROU), Franziska Neubauer (GER) and ÖJV teammate Helena Rottenhofer (JU Flachgau/S). It was only in the final that the Styrian, currently ranked 28th in the junior world rankings, had to admit defeat to local hero Leila Mazouzi after 2 waza-ari scores. The second red-white-red medal went to Lisa Betz (-63/Vienna Samurai/W), who defeated Franziska Neubauer (GER) in the bronze medal final. No fewer than six fifth places (Lisa Peherstorfer/-48/UJZ Mühlviertel/OÖ, Carina Klaus-Sternwieser/-52/Askö Reichraming/OÖ, Marlene Schinwald/-57/JU Flachgau/S, Helena Rottenhofer/-63/JU Flachgau/S, Alexander Kaserer/-73/Askö Bad Ischl/OÖ, Lenz Naprudnik/-81/ESV Sanjindo Bischofshofen/S) completed the ÖJV’s tally. In the end, the medal table ranked 11th out of 34 participating countries.
