Marc Márquez gives a scare in Sachsenring practice

The second practice session for the German Grand Prix started off with a lot of crashes and a red flag after a ride on the gravel of Fabio DiGiantonio.

The fall of the Italian driver of the Pertamina VR46 broke the protections and the session had to be suspended for several minutes while new ones were fitted. Shortly before this incident, Marc Márquez He had also fallen to the ground, having a hard high-side and hitting the ground hard.

The break was good for the rider from Lleida who had time to recover his bike and was able to get back on track at the restart. His was the best time, a 1:20.384, which was valid for several more minutes, but as soon as he crossed the finish line he headed for the medical centre, setting off all the alarms.

The Pramac rider spent almost the rest of the session being treated by the circuit’s medical services and although he was declared ‘fit’, the Catalan left the medical centre without his suit and dressed in a shirt. The session was over for him.

Dr. Chartre announced shortly after that Marquez had to leave the session due to pain and confirmed that “He has a strong right rib contusion that does not affect the bone part. There is a slight pain in the area where the cartilage and rib meet, but we have done five radiological projections and there is no rib fracture,” he added.

Regarding his participation in the Grand Prix, he commented that “We are going to put him on anti-inflammatory treatment but we are ruling out any fracture from the start,” so his presence on the track tomorrow will depend on his feelings.

The session was dominated by Maverick Viñales, who maintained his good feelings from Assen and set a spectacular 1:19.622, the best time of the session. Jorge Martín, Miguel Oliveira, Alex Márquez and Pecco Bagnaia completed the Top-5 in practice.
