“I decided to run by guaranteeing an upgrade to baseball and softball. We have been in free fall for years now, we have tried in every way to reverse the downward trend of our movement, but after more than 20 years, we must be aware of leaving aside electoral promises that are based on the humiliating exchange of favors, with the assignment of a federal position or the gathering of some National team. Offending what is called meritocracy. These cannot be arguments for negotiating the future of the movement – Sforza told Baseball.it – if we really have to sell ourselves, let’s do it for something more important, otherwise we must no longer criticize as our negotiation remains aimed only at accepting a personal advantage. And we can have nothing more to demand than what was promised to us and what was granted. The Federation must belong to everyone. This cannot be forgotten. The Fibs must not be seen as an antagonist, we all have the right to be an active part of it and we all must contribute to the relaunch of the movement, based on a new enthusiasm and a new planning”.

Marco Sforza made his debut in the major league baseball in 1985 with Roma, then he toured various Italian teams from Fiorentina to Caserta, from Nettuno to Paternò, up to Rimini, and back to Roma, always in the role of catcher. He played 781 games, had 2,971 appearances at bat, had 686 hits and a .261 batting average. And now he is also running for the FIBS Presidency.

“We are getting distracted from the real heart of the problem, with arguments like the running of 7 or 9 inning games, whether to play on Friday or Saturday, or whether to play with the white or yellow ball. These are mass distraction arguments, the problems are different… and we can’t pretend not to see them. We have become a cosmic nothing, we no longer exist. At least 20 years ago when they knew you played baseball they would ask you if you were a batter or a pitcher, now they ask you, do we play baseball and softball in Italy? I didn’t know that. Unfortunately, the judgment of our movement on the outside is simply ruthless. We have no way out, we have to wake up”.

Pressed on the program, candidate Sforza says: “There are many on the Internet, that of Fraccari from 2008, that of Change Up from 2016. All beautiful, but without having the executive nature of the project they are words on a sheet of paper. I was part of La Cremona and I shared a vision that simply spoke of Brand Italy and Product, re-evaluating what we have left. We will take over a brand and we should re-evaluate it as happened and happens to many other brands. These are historic brands, but now without commercial value. Let’s start from there”.
