Matías Grande: The Rising Star of Mexican Archery

Matías Grande is only 19 years old and has been part of the Mexican National Archery Team for two years, but his rise in this discipline is so prominent that he is already a reality in Mexican sport.

In 2023, Matías made a national impact for his glorious debut at the Central American and Caribbean Games in San Salvador 2023 and the Pan American Games in Santiago de Chile 2023, as he managed to win at least two medals in both.

“It has been a year in which I have learned a lot because I have maintained a good level and thanks to that I have gained the experience I needed. It was a 2023 full of experiences where I was able to clarify to myself that I have that level to be among the best in the world,” he said in an interview with CONADE.

After finishing 2023 ranked No. 19 worldwide, Grande started 2024 by breaking records. In April of this year, she achieved 695 points in the ranking of the Archery World Cup Shanghai 2024 and became the only Mexican to surpass 690 points in an international competition.

With one of the best averages per arrow (9.28) across the circuit, Grande, who has won 63% of her matches and qualified for Paris 2024 on November 5, 2023 during the Pan American Games, will make her Olympic debut in the individual and team events.

Although he is not a favorite, the experience he acquired alongside Alejandra Valencia, with whom he formed a mixed team in Santiago 2023 and in international competitions that took place in the first six months of 2024, can give Mexico hope of winning a medal through him.
