Maurienne sees cycling in a big way

Before reaching Saint-Vulbas in Ain, the peloton crosses the Maurienne, considered the largest cycling area in the world. The VAE (electrically assisted bicycle) is a good way to explore this territory made up of legendary passes and developed passes.

For a wild and spectacular escape, Maurienne has what you need. Wide open spaces and legendary passes often used by the Tour de France. Galibier, Iseran, Lautaret, Telegraph… if these big names evoke a significant difference in altitude and therefore great efforts, the VAE offers new perspectives here.

With the accessibility of its roads at heart, Maurienne launched three routes specially adapted to electric bikes a few years ago. A real plus for being immersed in the Alps, between exceptional panoramas and discoveries of heritage.

The loop of the mythical 6: Five days to gently climb six remarkable passes, the Télégraphe, the Galibier, the Lautaret, the Glandon, the Croix de Fer and the Mollard – and enjoy the magnificent panoramas offered by the Vanoise and Écrins massifs. Climbs punctuated by “discovery breaks” with an immersion in the local environment: lakes, forts, museums, gardens, baroque art, Beaufort… A pleasant loop full of surprises.

The Maurienn’Ita : A route that allows you to cross the border. First, drive from village to village, in complete tranquility on the roads of Maurienne, and discover, at your stops, some “treasures” around know-how, landscapes, and heritage: the Vanoise National Park and its glaciers, the fortified barrier of Esseillon, the Opinel museum, the Val-Cenis Lanslebourg dairy cooperative… A lovely Franco-Italian journey.

Between the Two Valleys: This route alternates between a gentle stroll and pushing yourself to the limit. After climbing the legendary Col de la Madeleine – following in the footsteps of the greatest Tour de France champions – head to the other side of the Lauzière massif, on the Tarentaise side, then the Olympic town of Albertville before returning to the V 62 cycle route for a peaceful return. The key is the Saint-François Longchamp spa centre for a well-deserved moment of relaxation.
