Medvedev accepted IOC invitation to compete in 2024 Olympics, Rublev and Kasatkina declined

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) on Tuesday unveiled its updated list of Russian and Belarusian athletes who have agreed to compete under neutral banners at the 2024 Olympic Games (July 26-August 11). 2021 US Open winner Daniil Medvedev, world No. 5, is among them.

He is accompanied by his compatriot Ekaterina Alexandrova, as is the Belarusian Victoria Azarenka, gold medallist (in mixed doubles) and bronze (in singles) in London in 2012, who had already announced her presence.

World No. 6 Andrey Rublev (doubles gold medallist in Tokyo), No. 12 Daria Kasatkina and No. 18 Anna Kalinskaya have declined the invitation. They join the ranks of non-participants in the Olympics Karen Khachanov (Olympic vice-champion in singles) and Liudmila Samsonova, who had already announced their refusal.

Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka had withdrawn from the Olympic tournament in mid-June. The world number 3 is battling physical problems and has also withdrawn from Wimbledon (shoulder).
