Mexican-American Baseball Player Marcelo Mayer Named to Future Stars Game for Second Time

Yesterday it was announced that Mexican-American baseball player Marcelo Mayer was named to attend the Future Stars Game for the second time, which will be held this year in Arlington, Texas, home of the current World Series champions, the Texas Rangers.

The shortstop is from Chula Vista, California, and his parents are from Sonora. He currently plays for the Portland Sea Dogs, where he has a .307 average, 7 home runs, 36 RBIs, 13 stolen bases and an .850 OPS.

He wouldn’t be the only one from his organization going to this event of the best MLB prospects, as he is accompanied by 22-year-old catcher Kyle Teel and 20-year-old outfielder Roman Anthony.

The Mexican-American baseball player is projected to reach the big leagues next year, however he will have strong competition to keep the starting shortstop position, since Cedanne Rafaela, Trevor Story and Enmanuel Valdéz are currently above him.
