Mexican Athletes on Alert as Microsoft Computer Failure Causes Travel Concerns to Olympic Games

Mexico City.- Mexican athletes are waiting for any notification that could change their travel itinerary to the Olympic Games as a consequence of the Microsoft computer failure a world levelwhich particularly affects airport and airline operations.

The travel itineraries purchased by the Mexican Olympic Committee (COM) establish that this Friday afternoon, sailor Elena Oetling, former Olympian Tania Elías Calles and physical therapist Thalia Olvera will travel to Paris.

“So far we are on time, Aeromexico is operating normally,” Oetling told ESPN around 9:00 a.m. in Mexico City. “We had a delay (on the flight from Guadalajara to Mexico City) but due to a lack of crew, the rest of the flights have left on time, even the international ones,” the sailor added.

Also planned are trips by Jorge Peña, president of the Mexican Shooting Federation, as well as Luis Alberto Castillo, from the same discipline.

In boxing, Oscar Contreras’ trip is scheduled. Sources from the Mexican Olympic Committee also said that for now the itineraries remain unchanged, but they are alert to any modifications.

Athletes traveling in the following days

The next group of Mexican athletes to travel to the Olympic venue is scheduled for this Saturday, July 20, when sprinter Cecilia Tamayo will take the flight.

The diving team is scheduled for Sunday afternoon, 21st. The archery, badminton and boxing teams are also planning to arrive in Paris this weekend, but they are currently in camps in different parts of Europe.

The Paris 2024 Organizing Committee has reported that it has had Minor problems in the accreditation system and the delivery of uniforms. Tony Estanguet, president of the Paris 2024 Olympic Organising Committee, quoted by Reuters, said operations were a bit slower and he was confident that Microsoft “can resolve the fault quickly”.
