Mexican Para Taekwondo Team Competing in World Open Challenge Before Paris 2024 Paralympic Games

Hidalgo Sport.- The national para taekwondo team traveled to Korea to participate in the World Para Taekwondo Open Challenge, a G-4 grade competition, which will take place on July 5 in the city of Chuncheon and will be the last competition before the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, for the five qualified Mexicans.

The team is made up of those selected for Paris 2024: the champion of the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, Juan Diego García López, in the K44 -70 kilos category and the silver medalist of the Santiago 2023 Parapan American Games, Claudia Romero Rodríguez, in K44 -47 kilograms.

In addition to the Veracruz 2023 world champion, Jessica Berenice García Quijano in K44 -52 kilos; the Santiago 2023 gold medalist, Fernanda Vargas Fernández, in K44 +65 kilos and the Santiago 2023 runner-up, Luis Mario Nájera Vleeschower, in K44 -80 kilograms.

Travelling with them were the 2023 Paris Grand Prix medallist, Víctor Manuel Palacios Tadeo in the K44 -63 kilos division and the silver medallist in Santiago 2023, Elsa Suisei Koyama Tamayo, in K44 -57 kilos.

National coaches Jannet Alegría Peña and María del Rosario Espinoza, as well as their multidisciplinary team, are also part of the delegation.

After their competitions, the Para Taekwondo athletes will spend two weeks in Korea as part of the final phase of their preparation for their event in the “City of Lights”.

Para taekwondo competitions at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games will take place from 29 to 31 August at the Grand Palais.
