Miami Heat sign veteran guard Alec Burks to one-year deal

MIAMI, Fla. – The Miami Heat signed former New York Knicks guard Alec Burks to a one-year contract on Thursday.

The exact terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.

Burks, who was acquired by the New York Knicks in a trade with the Detroit Pistons last season, averaged 6.5 points in 13.5 minutes at the end of the regular season with New York, according to ESPN.com.

Burks was able to shine after OG Anunoby’s injury in the Eastern Conference semifinal series against the Indiana Pacers, where he averaged 18 points per game on 51% shooting in five games in that series.

Burks, who turns 33 on July 20, has played for seven teams since entering the NBA in 2011.

Burks scored 26 points for the Knicks in Game 7 before they were eliminated by the Indiana Pacers.

During his magical playoff run, he proved he can provide quality minutes in big-game situations.

It’s unclear if the veteran will be a starter right away, but he should find playing time on a Heat franchise that likes to spread minutes among all of its players under head coach Erik Spoelstra.
