As the Minnesota Vikings begin their preparations for the upcoming season, they may have to do so without one of their key offensive players after he was involved in a crash for suspected drunk driving.

Vikings player Jordan Addison arrested for driving under the influence

According to the reports, Minnesota Vikings wide receiver, Jordan Addison, was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol on Friday night. The Los Angeles Communications Center notified the California Highway Patrol about a disabled vehicle blocking a lane of traffic on the Glen Anderson (105) Freeway near Los Angeles International Airport. Officers reportedly approached a white Rolls Royce with the driver asleep behind the wheel, and a California Highway Patrol spokesperson later confirmed that the driver was asleep when officers arrived.

Addison was arrested at approximately 11:36 p.m. following an investigation for driving under the influence, the report said, and was subsequently released at 1:36 a.m. Saturday morning. As far as the franchise itself is concerned, a statement was released acknowledging Addison’s situation. “We are aware of Jordan Addison’s arrest last Friday and are currently gathering more information regarding the incident,” the Vikings said in a statement. Now, it’s worth noting that this isn’t the first time Addison has had a brush with the law, and what’s worse is that his previous offense was also related to driving.

In fact, last summer, Addison was pulled over in Minnesota by officers who ticketed him for speeding after he was caught going 140 miles per hour while driving in a 55 mile per hour zone. On that occasion, the 22-year-old said he was driving at that speed because of an emergency involving his dog, though he later pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor speeding charge and paid a fine. Of course, this brings us to the reality of the situation: With 70 receptions, 911 yards, and 10 touchdowns in his rookie season, Addison is a potential threat in the making; meaning, his off-field conduct doesn’t bode well for any hopes the Vikings may have for him going forward. On the other hand, with training camp set to begin on July 27 and no criminal charges filed, he’s not a good fit.
