France is considered one of the favorites to win the European Championship, but they did not do very well in the groups and, after winning the first match against Austria, they drew against the Netherlands and Poland, finishing second in the group behind Austria. France and Belgium faced each other at the 2018 World Cup in the semifinals: France won 1-0, and a few days later they also beat Croatia in the final.

Portugal, however, won its group, beating the Czech Republic and Turkey and losing the third match against Georgia, when in any case it was already sure of first place. It is a team full of talent, whose main player remains Cristiano Ronaldo, who many wonder whether, at 39 years old, he is an advantage or a disadvantage. Slovenia advanced to a knockout stage of an international tournament for the first time, having drawn three matches against Denmark, Serbia and England.
