Spanish striker Álvaro Morata confirmed that he will continue to play for Atlético de Madrid next season, in a message on social media in which he confessed that he will not “stop until he wins” with the Madrid team, thus putting an end to rumours that he might leave this summer.
“I can’t imagine what it must be like to win with this shirt and I won’t stop until I achieve it,” the striker wrote on his social networks, in a post shared with the red-and-white club, along with a photograph celebrating a goal as an Atlético fan last season.
Morata, captain of the Spanish national team that is competing in Euro 2024, wanted to put an end to speculation in some media that spoke of a possible departure of the striker to Saudi Arabia this summer.
“I’m not thinking about it (the future). I know there will surely be things, but it’s not something I’m thinking about right now. During the Euros, the only thing I’m thinking about is playing for the national team. (Regarding the possibility of leaving) It depends. Last year I had a conversation with the coach and in the end things go one way or another, but I don’t know what will happen,” admitted the attacker at the national team’s ‘Media Day’ on June 3.
However, his situation has been clarified in recent days, with Atlético and Diego Pablo Simeone betting on the continuation of Morata, who scored 21 goals in all competitions last season. His drop in goalscoring in the final stretch of the season and the possible arrival of another striker at the club led to increased rumours of his departure, but now any doubts have been dispelled, pending official confirmation from the club.
