There are Liga MX Femenil clubs that have opted for the talent of international stars for the 2024 Apertura tournament, such as América and Monterrey, with the Spanish players Sandra Paños and Lucía García, as well as Pachuca with the national team member Kenti Robles. The roster of these teams contrasts with that of others such as Necaxa, which still works with foreign players of lesser renown.

There are now five spots for foreign players, the tournament has grown and that has made the league more attractive for these players, said Armando Martínez, president of Pachuca.

Andrea Pereira was one of the first Europeans to arrive in Mexican soccer when she signed with the Águilas in 2022. From there, a wave of renowned foreigners began to sign with clubs that usually fight for the title such as the Águilas, Monterrey, Pachuca and even now Tigres, who brought Jennifer Hermoso to their ranks.

In the midst of this demand for European footballers, the face of Kenti Robles appears, who has been captain of the Tricolor, but who forged her career in Spain. The defender was champion with Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid, so now she arrives at Las Tuzas with the task of lifting the title.

Kenti saw the importance of women’s football for us, we have invested in that project, we give it the same value as men’s football. She is a reference in the national team, she triumphed in Spain and is the element we needed to strengthen the team, said Martínez.

After the departure of Pereira and the French Aurélie Kaci, the Eagles opted for another player with extensive international experience, the Spanish goalkeeper Sandra Paños, who won two titles with Barcelona.

Champion Monterrey also stole the spotlight with the signing of forward and La Roja national team player Lucía García.

These signings contrast with those of the rest of the Liga MX. Necaxa, a team that has been shipwrecked in the basement, will be made up of national players who have played for several teams and as a star signing they announced Allison Rose, who arrives from the American collegiate league.

Puebla and Mazatlán, who have also suffered, did not announce any major reinforcements, while Pumas and Cruz Azul looked to Uruguayan football to bring in Laura Felipe and Rocío Martínez, respectively. The tournament begins today with Robles’ debut against Las Centellas.
