Navigating Restricted Free Agency: The Case of Latvian Goalkeeper Shilov

Making offers doesn’t immediately mean a contract, but instead gives teams the right of first refusal or draft pick compensation if the player signs with another team.

Shilov is a restricted free agent after this season.

The 23-year-old Latvian goalkeeper celebrated five victories in ten matches in this year’s Stanley Cup, allowed an average of 2.9 innings and saved 89.8% of shots, as the team made it to the second round. In the regular season, he played in four games, won three, allowed 2.5 innings on average and shot 88.1%.

Shilov spent most of the season in the American Hockey League (AHL), where he celebrated 16 victories in 34 fights, averaged 2.7 rebounds and blocked 90.7% of shots. The Latvian has played four seasons in North American professional hockey, in the last two of which he also got the chance to play in the NHL.
