NBA Free Agency: Magic Keep Backups – Evaluating Moritz Wagner’s Future

NBA Free Agency: Magic keep backups – is there room for Wagner?

4:58 p.m.: The hype surrounding Dereck Lively II was somewhat quelled in the finals, but it could continue in the coming season. The Mavericks see the 20-year-old as having the potential to become a defensive anchor of the caliber of Kevin Garnett or Joakim Noah. Tim McMahon (ESPN) revealed this in the podcast “The Hoop Collective”. Lively is also set to start again next season, with Daniel Gafford moving to the bench.

4:49 p.m.: The exchange between the Clippers and Sixers remains constant. According to Woj, Mo Bamba is moving to the West Coast after one season with the Sixers for a one-year contract and $2.6 million. He follows Nic Batum (2 years, $9.5 million), while George famously moved in the other direction.

4:39 p.m.: The Magic retained another free agent in Gary Harris, who will earn a total of $14 million over the next two years. Harris is an elite defender with a good three-pointer at his best, but has struggled with injuries and inconsistency for years.

4:35 p.m.: That doesn’t necessarily mean that there won’t be any room for Wagner in the Magic’s rotation. The 27-year-old contributed 10.9 points per game on 60.1 percent field goal percentage coming off the bench last season and repeatedly shone as an energizer. However, it remains to be seen whether Orlando will want to pay good money for two backup bigs. Wagner has also recommended himself to other teams while with the Magic, should that happen.

4:32 p.m.: The Magic made Moritz Wagner a free agent yesterday by not exercising a team option for eight million. A few hours later, they gave Goga Bitadze a three-year contract for a total of 25 million. This was reported by Wojnarowski (ESPN).
