Neighbor’s Baseball Bat Attack Leads to Pre-Trial Detention: Aix-les-Bains Case

A resident of Aix-les-Bains was placed in pre-trial detention this Friday, July 5. This forty-year-old was arrested the day before, after hitting his neighbors with a baseball bat. The neighborhood conflict began on June 28 between these Aix residents who live in the same building. A few days later, on July 1, the couple was walking down the street with their 6-year-old child, when the neighbor came out of an association premises masked and armed with a baseball bat.

The forty-year-old man struck several blows at the husband, who was injured in the ankle, and at his wife, who was injured in the arm and side, in front of their six-year-old child, who was spared. The father was prescribed two days of ITT (total incapacity to work), his partner two days of ITT as well and their child six days of ITT, the latter was very shocked. The attacker also allegedly threatened to kill them on several occasions.

In police custody, the accused admitted the violence but denied the death threats. He is being prosecuted for intentional violence with a weapon followed by an ITT of less than 8 days as well as for insulting an officer during his arrest. The Aix resident was remanded in custody this Friday and placed in pre-trial detention. He will be tried immediately before the Chambéry judicial court on Monday, July 8 at 2 p.m.
