Primorsky Krai announced on the 19th that a North Korean children’s team arrived to participate in the first international children’s summer sports competition, “Children of Primorsky Krai,” to be held at the gymnasium of the Far Eastern Federal University (FEFU) in Vladivostok from the 21st to the 26th.

The North Korean delegation consists of 25 children, including athletes competing in track and field, table tennis, swimming and badminton.

On this day, Zhan Kuznetsov, the head of the Primorsky Krai Sports Department, and others went to Vladivostok to greet the North Korean team, and women dressed in traditional Russian costumes welcomed the North Korean team by handing out bread and salt in the traditional Russian manner.

Hosted by the Primorsky Krai government and the Ministry of Sports of the Russian Federation and supported by the Vladivostok city government, this competition will be attended by six countries, including Russia, North Korea, Belarus, India, China, and Uzbekistan.

A total of 383 awards are up for grabs in 12 sports including badminton, basketball, boxing, athletics, tennis, swimming and soccer, with more than 1,000 athletes, 150 referees and 250 volunteers taking part.

Additionally, various events to promote sports exchanges will be held at this competition.

Ksenia Knyazeva, the press officer for the event, said in an interview with a local broadcaster on the 16th that the event was held to strengthen exchanges with regional bureaus.

Knyazeva: North Korea has confirmed its participation, and China, Belarus, India and Uzbekistan will participate. The main purpose of the event is to foster friendship and cultural exchange through sports.
