Novak Djokovic Ready for Wimbledon Opener After Knee Surgery Success

Seven-time Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic is in good spirits for his appearance in the first round of Wimbledon on Tuesday.

The 24-time major winner had undergone an operation on his right knee after winning the round of 16 at the French Open. He has now tested his knee to the maximum since arriving in London.

“When it happened in the fourth round in Paris, I decided very quickly to have an operation. It was very doubtful whether I would make it to Wimbledon,” confirmed Djokovic. The Serb arrived in London last Sunday and has had a very good week of training since then. “I played points and training sets with (Jannik) Sinner, Frances Tiafoe, with (Daniil) Medvedev, Emil Ruusuvuori and Holger Rune,” revealed the 37-year-old Serb.

The knee was tested almost to the maximum against these top players. Djokovic, who is aiming for his 25th major victory in London and thus the sole record, will be able to say more after his opening match against Czech qualifier Vit Kopriva. “I will have more feedback on how my knee reacts in a best-of-five Grand Slam match,” said the world number two. “Especially because it is Wimbledon, the tournament I dreamed of as a child, the thought of missing it was not right.”
