Off the Field Friendship: São Paulo and Athletico Goalkeepers Bond Despite Rivalry

Rivals only on the field: the duo suffered from a distance during a game between their teams (Instagram/Julio Casares)

Head of the Brazilian National Team delegation competing in the Copa América in the USA, São Paulo president Julio Casares posted a curious photo on his social media, to say the least.

The manager recorded the moment when Rafael, São Paulo’s goalkeeper, watched the 2-1 victory over Athletico, on Wednesday (3), in the Brazilian Championship, alongside Bento, goalkeeper of Tricolor’s opponent from Paraná.

Both players are part of Brazil’s squad competing in the continental tournament.

The pair were heading with the rest of the delegation to Las Vegas, the venue for the team’s clash with Uruguay, on Saturday (6), in the quarter-finals.

In the comments of the post, it is clear that neither São Paulo nor Atlético fans are very excited about Dorival Júnior’s team, as both sides called for the elimination of the National Team to have their starting goalkeepers back.

In the case of Furacão, there is an aggravating factor: desired by European football, Bento may not even wear the red-black shirt again if he is traded.
