Olympic Champion Fabio Basile Inspires Young Judoka in Switzerland

The multiple international medalist and 2016 Olympic champion, Fabio Basile from Italy, not only showed the approximately 60 children and young people from Murten, Marly, Lausanne and Romont his best techniques, but also revealed something of his attitude that made him a champion:

It is not enough to be strong and have talent, it also takes courage to be successful in life and as a judoka.

The young judoka were enthusiastic about their idol’s technique and passion. They were all the more excited about the autograph session and lunch that followed. The energy and enthusiasm of the morning continued in the afternoon when the teams from the Marly-Murten, Lausanne and Romont judo clubs competed against each other in the third round of the National League B. The young judoka and their families present were able to enjoy attractive encounters as spectators.

The Marly-Murten judo team with strong performances

The Marly-Murten judo team, supported by the home crowd, put in a strong performance and celebrated valuable victories against the Stade Lausanne judo club. The home team also put in a good performance against the Romont judo club, but suffered narrow defeats overall. The performance of Jan Waeber from Murten deserves special mention. He won all four matches with spectacular judo and thus made a significant contribution to his team’s success.

The real winners

But the real winners of this day were not just the successful fighters on the mat. It was the togetherness and the shared experience of movement, friendship and passion that made this day so special.

Children, young people and relatives as well as the competitors themselves shared moments of exchange, competition and peaceful coexistence. This shared spirit that characterizes judo was clearly felt on this day.

After the summer break, the fourth round of the National League B will continue on August 31st. The Marly-Murten team will face Cheseaux and St. Gallen away. And at the latest at the Murten City Festival on August 9th and 10th, 2024, the common good will be strengthened again. The Hara Sport Murten judo club will once again have its traditional stand at the city festival.
