Egyptian fencer Nada Hafez has revealed that she is seven months pregnant after her elimination from fencing. The 26-year-old Hafez had won in the first round but lost her match for a place in the last eight.
Still, the Egyptian was overjoyed. On Instagram, she announced that she was expecting. “What seems to you like two players on stage, were actually three! It was me, my competitor, and my little baby who is yet to come into our world!”, the expectant mother wrote.
Hafez, who won in the first round against the American Elizabeth Tartakovsky, eventually lost to Jeon Ha-young of South Korea. After that defeat, she said that participating in the Games had been a physical strain. But she also says she is proud.
Rollercoaster
“The rollercoaster of pregnancy is tough enough, but having to fight to keep the balance between life and exercise was very strenuous. It was worth it anyway.”
