INTERVIEW – One month before the Paris Games, the director of high performance at the National Sports Agency looks back, for Le Figaro, on his six years working “in the service of French sport”.
Appointed general manager of high performance within the National Sports Agency (ANS) in 2017 by Laura Flessel with the main objective of making France shine at the Paris 2024 Games, Claude Onesta has not had a nearly seven-year term of office that is easy. A sometimes complicated relationship with the Minister of Sports, a very tense relationship with certain national technical directors, difficulty in developing a system that prefers to live on its achievements… The former successful coach of French handball has had to overcome many obstacles. While he will hand over to Yann Cucherat at the beginning of October, the Albi native spoke to Figaro, just a few days before the announcement of the dissolution of the Assembly by the President of the Republic, which should ultimately lead to him rubbing shoulders with a fourth Minister of Sports.
