Panama Sends Delegation to Paris 2024 Olympic Games

PANAMA, July 12 (Xinhua) — Panamanian President Jose Raul Mulino on Friday handed over the national flag to boxer Atheyna Bylon and cycling coach Yelko Gomez on their way to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.

“Without a doubt, Atheyna will shine and all Panamanians will be awaiting her honorable participation in that French city,” said the president at an event at the presidential headquarters in the Panamanian capital.

Mulino recalled that the country has had outstanding athletes carrying the national flag, such as swimmer Adán Gordón, who was the first Panamanian Olympic athlete in 1928, as well as Lloyd Barrington LaBeach, winner of two bronze medals in London in 1948, and athlete Irving Saladino, who won the only gold medal for Panama in Beijing 2008.

The Panamanian delegation for Paris 2024 is made up of seven athletes: Bylon (boxing), Emily Santos (aquatics), Gianna Woodruff (athletics), Hillary Heron (gymnastics), Kristine Jiménez (judo), Franklin Archibold (cycling) and Tyler Christianson (aquatics).
