Paula Badosa’s Emotional Comeback: Qualifies for Round of 16 at Wimbledon

What a relief for Paula Badosa!

Having suffered from major physical problems with her back for two years now, the former world number 2 player qualified this Friday for the first time since Roland-Garros 2022 for the round of 16 of a Grand Slam tournament.

Having defeated the Russian Daria Kasatkina after a magnificent 2h50 battle of play (7–6(6), 4–6, 6–4), the Spanish player could not hold back a few tears during her post-match interview.

“Against Dasha (Kasatkina’s nickname) it’s always a battle. She’s a very good player. She’s been at the top for so many years. It’s very special for me. It’s not my first time in the second week of a Grand Slam but for me it’s very special because a few months ago I didn’t know if I was going to be able to play tennis again… I’m going to be so embarrassed because of this video but it’s okay.”said the one who will face Vekic or Yastremska for a place in the quarter-finals.
