There are people who make clubs. The Peralada would not be understood without the figure of Josep Maria Genís Batlle (Vilabertran, 1966), popularly known as Pep Genís. Coach, technical secretary, base coordinator, manager…, and now in charge of first team equipment for several seasons now. “I just needed to play,” he laughs. The one from Vilabertran has done everything at the green-and-white club. Also the soul of the party, accompanied by his Mexican hat and a ukulele, when the occasion presents itself. “I don’t know how many views it has, a lot. I have been congratulated by many players and people I have met thanks to Peralada. I get on well with everyone, that is to say…”, says Pep Genís about the publication that the club made to announce its renewal in the coaching staffAlex Marsal. “I started here with nothing… I was with amateur football in Vilabertran (he got promotion to Segona Regional as champion) and Peralada made me a proposal to bring grassroots football. Pep Genís the youth of the Third Division became champion, after imposing his philosophy. “I was the first coach of the club to demand three training sessions a week”, he says. He has so many anecdotes with the Peralada, that he has even made a scrapbook so that they don’t get lost. 24 years go a long way. Pep Genís was one of them promoters of the defunct Torneig Vila de Peralada together with Alain Jacobs (current president of Futbol Sala Vilafant), Nitus Santos i Luis Miguel Berenguel Brazil. “We thought of playing a friendly match against Espanyol because Alain’s son, Eric, was playing there, and it ended up becoming a tournament. Pep Genís learned a new way to contribute to football following the affiliation between Girona and Peralada from 2017 to 2019. And then, with the arrival of Narcís Pélach Chicho he fully joined the coaching staff: “Chicho wanted a material manager to always be with them and I agreed, leaving my job to dedicate myself only to the team”.
For Pep Genís, the most important thing is “that the player doesn’t lack anything”. «Javi Garcia he told me one day that the player has only to think about playing, not where he has his socks, shorts or what clothes he has to wear. me I have everything ready for the player to only think about playing and training. This is essential”, he emphasizes.
His job has remained in the coaching staff of Peralada, becoming an essential part of the group. “Over time, I’ve learned more. I prepare bags for bib numbers with a hanger, play clothes, warm-up clothes, shin pads… Everything they need. That way it’s much easier and faster”, he explains. Pep Genís will continue for many years at Peralada “fighting and, above all, making the players happy”.
