Phoenix Suns Address Point Guard Void with Addition of Monte Morris

For many, the lack of a true point guard precipitated the Suns’ downfall last season. So Phoenix has moved to fill the void at the No. 1 position: Monte Morris arrives in Arizona!

Despite having very limited room to maneuver this summer, the Suns managed to recruit a player capable of providing the basics at point guard.

Monte Morris will indeed sign with Phoenix if we are to believe Shams Charania of The Athletic. This is to be confirmed but we are probably on a contract at least for veterans given the limited resources available to Phoenix for recruiting.

Transferred from the Pistons to the Wolves during the trade deadline last February, Monte Morris has played little in Minnesota but represents a rather interesting solution for Phoenix.

The 29-year-old is averaging 10 points and nearly 4 assists in his career, shooting 48%, including 39% from the parking lot. Before his stints in Washington, Detroit and Minnesota, Morris was Jamal Murray’s backup for the Nuggets, and even Denver’s starting point guard after Murray’s injury. Monte had established himself as a solid, clean point guard with less than one turnover per game.

We’ll see how new Suns coach Mike Budenholzer uses Morris. We imagine he’ll be a backup behind Bradley Beal and Devin Booker. But one thing is for sure: the Cactus finally have a true point guard on their roster. It’s about time!
