The Municipal Sports Institute works to promote and encourage sporting activity and physical culture among the entire population of El Ejido. Some 5,200 residents of all ages have practiced sport in the 2023/24 season with the IMD in the Municipal Sports Schools for Schools and Adults, which have a wide and varied range of modalities.
The IMD has 19 sports for schools, with 3,200 children, and 6 sports for adults, with 2,000 adults. The offer is athletics, modern dance, basketball, cycling, 7-a-side football, indoor football, rhythmic gymnastics, acrobatic gymnastics, multi-sport, volleyball, mountaineering, triathlon, judo and karate, paddle tennis, rowing and canoeing, tennis, taekwondo, dance fitness, maintenance gymnastics, indoor cycling, pilates, gymnastics for the elderly and yoga.
Schools are usually held for 2 hours per week, which means a total of around 65 hours per season from 16:00 to 17:00 or from 17:00 to 18:00, with the exception of schools that have a single weekly session held on Saturday mornings, which means around 48 hours/season.
On the other hand, within the schools for adults, different possibilities are offered, so that users can choose between 2, 3 or 5 days; or the activity prepared for senior citizens, which means a total of 74 hours for 2-day students, 106 hours for 3-day students and 99 hours for retired students.
The IMD Governing Council has taken stock of the EDM and has noted the update of public prices, which have been frozen for ten years, in order to cope with the significant increase in users of each new season and the costs of the sports programs, that is, the payment of all the monitors, staff of the facilities, cleaning and maintenance work of all the sports spaces. The greatest increase in expenses in the EDM Program is due to the rise by collective agreement in the price/hour of the monitors who teach the activity.
For example, group school modalities go from 10.13 euros to 13.88 euros per month, or adult schools with two days in a pavilion go from 11.33 to 15.00 euros.
The pre-registration period for EDM for schoolchildren opens on July 15th and for adults on August 5th. Registration can be done online at www.imd.elejido.es and in person at the Casa del Deporte.
