Puebla Natives Shine as Mexico’s Representatives in WBSC Women’s World Cup Finals in Thunder Bay

One year later, Puebla natives Selene Huerta, Narda Andrade and Rosy del Castillo return to Thunder Bay, Canada for the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Women’s World Cup Finals.

The local players, who have been training with the national team in Mexico City (CDMX) for 15 days, made the final cut and entered the roster of 21 players revealed on Friday by the Mexican Baseball Federation (FEMEBE) and made the trip the same day to the country of the maple leaf to debut this Sunday in the tournament against the home team, Canada.

Narda Andrade, Selene Huerta and Rosy del Castillo are part of Mexico’s pitching staff in Thunder Bay. Last year, during the first phase of the tournament, Rosy del Castillo was in charge of starting the game in the historic debut of the Mexican team in the Finals of the Women’s World Cup of the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC).

For del Castillo and Andrade, it is a great year with the recent call to the national team after having participated in the first season of the Mexican Softball League (LMS), where they played with Diablos Rojos del México and Olmecas de Tabasco, respectively.

Mexico’s path to the WBSC finals

The tricolor team and Venezuela are the only teams representing Latin America in the tournament.

In addition to Venezuela and Mexico, the United States, Chinese Taipei, Japan and Canada are participating in the finals of the WBSC Women’s World Cup.

Mexico, with Puebla’s Narda Andrade, Selene Huerta and Rosy del Castillo, after opening the competition on Sunday against Canada, will meet the United States on Monday. Meanwhile, on Tuesday, July 30, the Mexicans will face Chinese Taipei.

On Wednesday, July 31, the national team will face Japan, while on August 1, they will face Venezuela.

The World Cup is played in a round robin format. The top two teams meet in the final on August 3rd; the third and fourth teams play for bronze on the same day.
