Racist remarks by Jaminet: the player called up by Toulon on July 23

A four-day postponement. Initially summoned on Friday, July 19 by the Toulon rugby club after making racist remarks in a video published on Instagram, Melvyn Jaminet will not meet with his employer until Tuesday, July 23, according to the Team.

A source close to the case, contacted by the media, mentions a request made by the lawyer “and accepted by the RCT”. L’Equipe adds that Bernard Lemaître, president of the club, will be present at this interview. For his part, Jaminet may be accompanied by a protected employee of the RCT – a staff representative or a unionized employee – as requested by his lawyer.

The 25-year-old had filmed himself in the street in the middle of the night, visibly drunk, in the middle of a summer tour with the French XV in Argentina. He had declared: “I swear to you, the first Arab I meet on the road, I’ll hit him with my helmet, I’ll hit him with my helmet! I’m telling you, I’ll hit him with my helmet, I’ll hit him with my helmet,” the Toulon player got angry.

The video is said to have appeared in the rugby player’s story before being quickly deleted but has since been shared by several X accounts, such as that of LFI MP Sébastien Delogu. “The comments made by rugby player Melvyn Jaminet are scandalous and must be very severely punished by the French Rugby Federation and RC Toulon,” he wrote.

About twenty young people from a Toulon city had gone to the RCT training center to ask for explanations. Laurent Emmanuelli, the club’s sports director, had received them, stating a firm position on the player’s conviction. The French team must also deal with another case, that of its two young internationals, Hugo Auradou and Oscar Jegou, both detained at home and equipped with electronic bracelets after an accusation of aggravated rape.
