Radamel Falcao García makes official debut with Millonarios jersey

Radamel Falcao García fulfilled his childhood dream and officially debuted with the Millonarios jersey. El Tigre was a substitute in the match against Medellín, he came on at the start of the second half, but unfortunately he was unable to make a big impact. Fortunately for the blues, Santiago Giordana saved them and with one minute left in the game he scored a great goal from outside the area.

At the start of the game, the Bogota club tried to smother the Antioquian team, showing that they wanted to take control of the ball. However, as the minutes passed, Alfredo Arias’ team settled better on the field and put the blues on the ropes. The first warning would come in the seventh minute after a shot by Jersson González.

Three minutes later, Brayan León came close again with a powerful right-footed shot. Millonarios tried, but couldn’t, and Medellín always had control of the match during the first half.

The goal would come in the 43rd minute and would be scored by Brayan León, the best player of the powerful team. The forward fought for the ball with Andrés Llinás, shot at first, the ball hit the defender and went back to him. León was diagonally towards the goal, the goalkeeper Arboleda came out to defend his goal, but the ball ended up slipping through his legs.

Falcao’s entry

Gamero had to make changes to improve his team’s performance. At the start of the second half, Falcao García came on and made his official debut with Millonarios. Another change was Daniel Mantilla, who came on for Daniel Ruiz, who did not play at his best.

The top scorer of the Colombian National Team looked very active and eager, but he was unable to influence the game in a good way.

Tigre would have a clear chance in front of goal. One of his teammates overflowed and sent a cross, the ball fell to the number 9 in the center of the area, he shot but it went too far towards the goal, so the goalkeeper Eder Chaux was able to stop it with great ease and cleared the ball.

Millonarios continued to try, but unfortunately did not play well and had few chances in front of the rival goal.

Santiago Giordana, who came on for Leo Castro with 10 minutes left in the game, was the man in charge of saving the Blues. The Argentinean caught a loose ball outside the area and beat Chaux with a powerful right-footed shot in the 94th minute, when there were only two minutes left until the final whistle.

Falcao’s words

Radamel spoke after the match, he was very happy to have made his debut and made it clear that, despite being in good physical condition, he still needs to get into a better rhythm of play. “Medellín did a very good job, they went ahead and things were not easy. In the end we had a little more patience, we moved the ball and found space,” he said.

“It’s normal, the first match of the tournament is difficult for everyone. This place is difficult, they played a very good match and we got a point in the end and this helps us to continue improving,” he added.
