RB Leipzig is loaning defensive talent Tim Köhler (19) to third division club SC Verl. The central defender, who played 27 games (two goals) for the U19s last season and was in the Bundesliga squad four times, signed a professional contract until 2026 last November.

“Tim Köhler has been at RB Leipzig for ten years now and after his time in the youth team, he is now moving on to the next stage. We have discussed various options with Tim and found the best one in the form of a loan to Verl. We will of course follow Tim’s development closely and wish him a successful year at SC Verl,” said sporting director Rouven Schröder.

Christopher Lenz (29) will also be leaving Leipzig. The left-back came from Eintracht Frankfurt last summer as a back-up for one million euros and played eight games. The expiring contract included an option for a further season, which will not be exercised.

“Christopher Lenz has always put himself at the service of the team during his year at RB Leipzig. We brought him in last year as a clear back-up for the left-back position and Chris has taken on this role superbly and has always pushed the competition,” said Schröder. “He has the absolute quality to continue to play as a regular player in the Bundesliga and we wish him all the best for his next stop in professional football.”
