“Christian’s case is special, it happened because of the situation he was going through, because of who he is. I never hid it. But as a person, as a professional, I’m talking about January, he was without a club, injured, and what we tried to do was support him and in that sense the Federation behaved wonderfully. First, he did treatment in Spain and then he continued with the treatment at the Federation, especially with the team of physiotherapists, then also with the presence of our physical trainer, then with our head physical trainer, then with us a whole process that we followed because Christian was not in good condition, he even had offers, but he was not in a condition to join any club because his physique was not good. All that was resolved and he arrived very close to the edge but he managed to join the group’s training sessions; I repeat, very close to the edge. And that’s why we decided that he would be part of the squad.”
“That whole period ended when the Copa America ended because now he is healthy, he is in condition to join a team and on the other hand we can’t even help him too much or practically nothing because, as was said at the beginning, Videna is in ruins, we didn’t have anywhere to train him. We did everything on our side and so did he to try to recover a special player, who was going through an anomalous moment. Our part is done… he put a lot into getting it. He had discipline without a single mistake, we all have mistakes and more in a period of five months, and if we go player by player, you made some ‘mistakes’.”
“I don’t want to portray it as if Christian used to make mistakes and now he doesn’t make any more. But I have no doubt that he has grown and improved. Now it’s out of our hands because the next phase is for him to join a team and play, which we can’t give him. Therefore, far from regretting having helped him, we are grateful to God that he put us on the path.”
“The last thing. In the three or four weeks we had, there was no discipline problem from anyone. As I say, it’s not what I say, there are many people in the delegation who can corroborate what I’m saying. Then, when the delegation is dismantled, I can have my opinion of what I think is right and what I think is wrong, but each one has his own personality. In a group of people, I’m sure that not everyone would show how they feel in the same way. I have my way of being and thinking but I’m not going to refer to any particular case, when they are not under our orders.”
