The Colón Sports Park will be the venue for the Region 6 Little League Baseball Mexico Championship, with teams affiliated with Little League Baseball & Softball Inc. of Williamsport, and will take place from July 11 to 14 with teams from Oaxaca, Mexico City, Puebla, Campeche and Xalapa, through Liga Infantil y Juvenil de Beisbol Xalapeña.
The competition will be in the 17-19 age category called “Big League”, and the Veracruz capital will be the venue, thanks to the incursion of the Xalapeña Children’s and Youth Baseball League in the Williamsport tournament, where they have already participated with the 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, 13-14, 15-16 and 17-19 categories, said its president, Vicente Juárez.
He highlighted that in this championship in which they are participating, the 7-8 year old category won the regional championship in Puebla at the “Moyote”, and now the Xalapa team will participate in the Williamsport national championship, which will be held from August 2 to 8, in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas.

Regarding the tournament that will be held at the Colón Sports Park, with the 17-19 age category, he said that there will be six teams and that Xalapa will be represented by players from Perote, Tepetlán, Actopan, Emiliano Zapata, Cosautlán and Ixhuatlán, with a total of 19 elements.
“We will be participating with the most outstanding players in the region under manager Omar Ramsés. The matches are scheduled to start at 9 a.m. on the 11th, while the 10th will be the pre-match meeting, and the games were scheduled for the time I mentioned, as long as the weather conditions allow it, because if so, we have already spoken with the municipality to hold them in the afternoon-evening, everything will depend on the weather” he commented.
National baseball tournament will serve as a scouting event
At the championship, which will start on July 11 at nine in the morning at the Colón Sports Park, there will be representatives of the Diablos Rojos del México, the Dodgers and the Phillips, who will be looking for new prospects who could join their minor league teams at said institutions to seek the opportunity to play in professional baseball.
“Just like in the last tournament when scouts came to look for prospects, there will also be scouts in this tournament and we have four confirmed scouts, who are detecting new players to select them and invite them to form part of their teams.”
Finally, Vicente Juárez invited baseball fans to attend and support the Veracruz players, as he pointed out that the level will be very high, since the category is 17-19 years old.
“This category, called Big League, has a very high level, as players can be prospects to play with professional teams, so the championship is very attractive, so we are waiting for you starting on July 11 at nine in the morning with free admission,” he concluded.
The teams that will be participating are from Campeche, Oaxaca, which will arrive with two teams, Mexico City and Puebla, along with the representative from Veracruz, which will be called “Xalapeña Children’s and Youth Baseball League.”
