Rio de Janeiro Claims Victory in Brazilian Under-18 Mixed Team Judo Championship

In a hair-raising competition, Rio de Janeiro won the Brazilian Under-18 mixed team judo title. To finish on Sunday (30), the Rio team defeated the São Paulo team in the final, a duel full of twists and turns. The bronze medals went to Rio Grande do Sul and Mato Grosso. Rio de Janeiro’s path to the Brazilian Under-18 Judo Championship for mixed teams began with a victory over Pará (5-0). Then, Espírito Santo lost to Cariocas by the same score. In the semifinals, the local team defeated Rio Grande do Norte (5-1). On the other hand, São Paulo defeated Paraná (5 to 3), Rio Grande do Sul (5 to 1) and Mato Grosso (5 to 0) to reach the final of the tournament.

In the fight for first place in the Brazilian U18 Championship, São Paulo started better, with Juliana Yamazaki (44 kg) beating María Oliveira (44 kg) and Joao Rodríguez (55 kg) beating Víctor Silva (55 kg). However, Rio de Janeiro reacted and demanded equality. The draw ended with the victory of Camila Teixeira (52 kg) and Joa Andrade (66 kg) against Isabeli Barreto (52 kg) and Octavio Chiossi (66 kg). With the victory of Livia Rezende (63kg) and Pedro Santos da Silva (81kg), São Paulo opened up another two points. They defeated Victoria Freud (63kg) and Ruan Vasconcelos (81kg) in regular order.
