Road to Paris 2024: Mexican Taekwondo Team Member Daniela Souza Naranjo Prepares for Olympic Games

Hidalgo Sport.- The Mexican taekwondo team member, Daniela Souza Naranjo, traveled this Friday to Saint Raphael, France, along with her coach Abel Mendoza, to carry out her last preparation camp for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, where she will move on August 2.

“I feel very excited, very encouraged to be fulfilling a dream and very focused on going for a big goal. I want to do well and put Mexico at the top,” shared Daniela Souza, before boarding her plane for the Olympics.

“We will be in the south of France for three weeks before arriving in Paris. The intention is to adapt to the environment, the schedule, the climate and to be ready to be at the Olympic venue,” he explained.

Souza Naranjo, who has won the gold medal at the Guadalajara 2022 World Championship and the gold medals at the Lima 2019 and Santiago 2023 Pan American Games, traveled to France with her sparring partners Diana Souza and Jazmín Chávez, as well as her physiotherapist Miguel Carbajal.

“Attending the Olympic Games has been the goal of my life, it is what I have worked for so many years, since I was a youth, so for me it is very important to be representing Mexico in this event and I am very excited,” said Souza Naranjo.

Last year, the Baja California representative came very close to qualifying for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, after being champion in Lima 2019. “It’s the revenge that sport gives, it’s a completely new cycle, but I already have the experience of the past, so I have many positive feelings about what happened, I know it wasn’t the result I was looking for, but all of that became a learning experience and now I feel very ready to face Paris 2024,” she said.

“It is a lot of responsibility, it is a big dream, but we have also worked very hard, with a great commitment, so I feel calm and proud to be representing Mexican taekwondo.”

The two-time Pan American champion will arrive in Paris on August 2 after the preparation camp, where she will hone the competition strategy she has already outlined.

“We already have our possible opponents. Obviously, anything can happen at the Olympic Games, nothing is ever written in stone, but we believe that in the semi-finals we will face something similar to what happened at the World Championships, but every fight is important. We are not going to underestimate any of our opponents, because we all have a great level to make it to the Olympic Games.”
