41 – At 41 years and 126 days, Pepe šµš¹ becomes the oldest player to appear in a knockout stage match in major tournaments (World Cup and EURO), surpassing Peter Shilton’s record in the 1990 World Cup v Italy for 3rd place (40y and 292d).

In the beginning of the game, the Slovenians had to withstand the Portuguese pressure. They succeeded in this, as the favorite of the duel was not able to aggravate the situation at the opponent’s goal many times. In the fifth minute of the corner kick, Bernardu Silva got to the ball, but he was inaccurate from a short distance.
The Slovenians, playing tight in defense and curbing the opponents’ powerful offensive potential, after withstanding the first pressure, held the ball more confidently, sometimes approaching the Portuguese penalty area.
In the dying seconds of first-half stoppage time, Portugal produced their most dangerous attack of the campaign, ending with London Fulham midfielder JoĆ£o Palinha hitting the post.
In both halves, cannon shots in direct free kicks went to Cristiano Ronaldo, who hit a little over the crossbar in the 34th minute, but in the 55th minute, goalkeeper Jan Oblak received his shot, saving the ball with his hands.
Cristiano Ronaldo has attempted four free-kick shots in this match.

The Portuguese started the second half energetically, but this time, too, the Slovenians, as time went by, retook the opponent’s attack mechanism.
In the 61st minute, the Slovenian Benjamin ŠeŔko almost managed to chase away the veteran Pepi and run alone towards the goalkeeper. The sniper of the Leipzig club managed to get a shot, but it did not go as expected.
At the end of the regular time, Ronaldo made a breakthrough at the top of the attack, whose shot was caught by Oblak, Slovenia in this situation, most likely, escaping from a loss.
At the end of the first half of extra time, the Portuguese Djogu Zota broke through the Slovenian defense, stopping in the penalty area against the Slovenian defender Vani Drkusic, who played in the Russian Premier League for the last three seasons. The Italian referee awarded a penalty kick which Ronaldo failed to take. The 39-year-old footballer’s penalty was saved by Oblak.
Ronaldo failed to become the oldest goalscorer in the finals of the European championships.
In the second half of extra time, the Slovenians had the brightest opportunity, SeŔko ran alone towards the goalkeeper KoŔta, but the Portuguese saved the shot with his foot.
Matjažs Kek, the head coach of the Slovenian national team, was dismissed for some rude statement.
“Porto” goalkeeper Djogu KoÅ”ta shone in the penalty shootout, who rehabilitated himself for the unsuccessful game against Georgia by convincingly saving the shots of Slovenian veteran Josip IliÄiÄiÄ, defender Jure Balkovec and midfielder Benjamin VerbiÄ.
Ronaldo was the first to hit in the Portuguese ranks, who sent the ball into the opposite corner. This time too, Oblak correctly determined the direction, but this time he could not reach the ball. The long-time main goalkeeper of the Madrid players was not able to save even after the shots of Bruno Fernandes and Bernard Silva of the Manchester clubs.
