RTVE to Broadcast Paralympic Games in Paris: Spanish Athletes Ready to Shine

RTVE will broadcast the Paralympic Games in Paris. From 28 August to 8 September, the Games in the French capital will be the seventh of this century to be broadcast uninterruptedly, after those in Sydney, Athens, Beijing, London, Rio de Janeiro and Tokyo.

The public corporation will support Spanish athletes with broadcasts of the disciplines in which they will participate, such as athletics, swimming, wheelchair basketball, table tennis, cycling, canoeing, boccia, taekwondo, triathlon, and those in which more athletes are classified. In addition, the quotas in wheelchair tennis, judo and weightlifting have yet to be filled.

Teledeporte, every afternoon with a studio open until approximately 11:00 p.m., will offer the most important events, with interviews with the protagonists conducted by two teams of special correspondents, as well as a summary programme of the best events of the day. It will be presented by Frank Robert, assisted by collaborators of the Spanish Paralympic Committee (CPE).

The team of narrators, who will begin their broadcasts early in the morning, will include Julia Luna, Amat Carceller, Mario Ojuel, Javier López, Eva Aguilera, Lourdes García Campos, Ramón Carreras and Arseni Pérez, among many others.

More than 120 Spanish athletes will form a delegation eager to surpass the 36 medals won in the Tokyo edition, 9 gold, 15 silver and 12 bronze, spread across seven sports: athletics, cycling, judo, swimming, table tennis, triathlon and shooting. In total, Spain has participated in 13 Summer Paralympic Games and has won 651 medals.

Marta Arce, a judoka who will be participating in her fifth Games, and Álvaro Varela, a table tennis player who will be doing so for the seventh time, will be the flag bearers for Spain as they march at the head of the delegation down the Champs Elysees. From there they will enter the Place de la Concorde, which will serve as a stadium.

The interim president of Spanish National Television, Concepción Cascajosa, praised the work of the director of the sports department, Rosana Romero, “for her involvement in this task, which has also allowed for significant savings compared to the initial demand.”

“I want to highlight the importance of Paralympic sport,” said Cascajosa, who announced that RTVE will also offer “very special programming dedicated to Paralympic sport and the work and contribution of people with disabilities to society during those days.”

Cascajosa also praised the holder of the audiovisual rights, the company Enjoy, “for its collaboration, commitment to Paralympic sport and its support for public radio and television.”

In a recent interview, the president of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), Andrew Parsons, expressed his desire for RTVE to reach an agreement “as soon as possible” to acquire the broadcasting rights for the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games so that Spanish citizens can watch the world’s best disabled athletes on television.
