Co-favorite Aryna Sabalenka has to give up hope of winning her first Wimbledon title before she even enters the tournament. The Belarusian number three in the world rankings withdrew from the grass court classic in London on Monday due to shoulder problems, the organizers announced.

Sabalenka’s first-round match against Emina Bektas from the USA was scheduled for Monday on the second-largest court. The Australian Open winner had already doubted her participation before the tournament began because of the injury.
The number 22 seeded Russian Yekaterina Alexandrova had already had to withdraw due to illness. Her opening opponent would have been the British former US Open winner Emma Raducanu.
