The third National Youth Championship to be played in our city entered the final stage after the quarter-finals were played today in all categories and opens the way to the semi-finals, which will have the presence of three representatives of the legion from Salta. Florencia Mardones Racioppi, in under-14, Manuela Valdecantos and Sol Coronel, both in under-18, will play again today looking for the finals.

The National Championship is organized by the Salta Tennis Association (AST) and supervised by the Argentine Tennis Association (AAT) and takes place in three venues: Jockey Club, Gimnasia y Tiro and Sporting Club. The competition started last Monday with 300 players from all over the country distributed in the categories under-12, under-14, under-16 and under-18, in women and men and playing in singles and doubles.

Florencia Mardones, fourth seed in the under-14 women’s division, yesterday beat Pilar Da Silva (12th) by 6-3 and 6-3 in her quarter-final match and tomorrow she will have as her rival Florencia Raso (10th), who eliminated Lucía Valles (5th) by 6-1 and 6-3. The Salta native eliminated Victoria Páez (6-4 and 6-3, round of 16) and Sofía Gabilanes (7-6 and 6-4, second round) in the previous rounds. The match between Mardones and Raso will be played today at the Sporting Club.

Meanwhile, the women’s under-18 division will have two players from Salta playing in the semi-finals tomorrow. Sol Coronel (71st) has been having a great campaign, which yesterday resulted in a victory against Yamila Lara (44th) by 6-0 and 6-4. The player from Salta made her debut by beating Lola Buñirigo (16th) in the round of 16 by 2-6, 6-4 and 6-2. She will continue her path in the National Championship facing Renata Pozzobon (6th).

In the other semi-final round there will be Manuela Valdecantos (54th) who on Wednesday beat Guillermina Berlanda (49th) by a resounding 6-3 and 6-0; the Salta native made her debut in the first round beating Martina Ficarra (46th) by 6-1 and 6-0 and in the round of 16 she beat Jackelin Silva (7th) by 6-4 and 6-4. Tomorrow she will face Agustina Etchart (20th). The matches of Coronel and Valdecantos will be at the Jockey Club.

The great contribution of the clubs

Within the organization of the National Youth Championship, it is worth highlighting the great contribution made by the Salta clubs, which serve as a “home” for hundreds of tennis players who compete in our city.

Jockey Club, Gimnasia y Tiro and Sporting Club are entities that have a significant number of members, many of whom remain passionate about tennis regardless of their age. This time, these entities selflessly lent their courts so that the growing generation of tennis players can continue to gain experience at a national level.

The clubs presented venues and fields in appropriate conditions for the normal development of the official AAT competition, which places Salta in a privileged position at the national level.
