We express sincere satisfaction for the signing – which took place yesterday between the commander of the Gendarmerie Maurizio Faraone and the director of the Anti-Mafia Investigation Directorate Michele Carbone – of an important agreement that allows San Marino to become part of the international network that fights organized crime. The network currently includes 47 police forces representing over 40 countries, members of the European Union and third countries.
The aim is to promote the use of specialized experts, seconded to investigative units with advisory functions, as well as the sharing of investigative techniques and exchange of best practices, also through the use of special investigative tools such as the sharing of technical equipment, linguistic assistance in the case of criminal activities carried out in multiple States, and undercover intelligence activities.
We have always been committed to controls, believing that a technologically advanced, targeted and effective integrated control system is necessary, which allows for the real-time identification of anomaly and directly targets criminals, without compromising or limiting those who choose our country to operate in a virtuous manner.
Our hope is that, together with these significant synergies, we can continue the important and in-depth work started in the previous legislature with the reorganization of the Office of Economic Activities: today we still ask ourselves what were the political purposes that led to opposing this path, but if today the intent has changed and we intend to continue quickly on this path, for the benefit of the country, let’s continue like this.
All this leads us to a further consideration: methods based on corruption and fear constitute a serious problem that also grips our society and prevents the Republic from progressing. Our Party sides with legality and freedom, which is why we hope that these synergies will allow us to reach increasingly higher levels of effectiveness, in the interest of all.
