Songjukgol Cultural Festival and Residents’ General Assembly Celebrates Community Unity and Eco-Friendly Initiatives in Suwon-si Jangan-gu

[시사일보=조혜영 기자] On the 12th, Songjuk-dong, Jangan-gu, Suwon-si successfully held the ‘Songjukgol Cultural Festival and Residents’ General Assembly’ in the plaza in front of the badminton court at Manseok Park.

On this day, around 300 residents participated in the festival, not only enjoying various performances and experiential events, but also sharing the achievements of the 2024 Resident Autonomy Council activities, and through announcements and residents’ votes on projects to be promoted in Songjuk-dong next year, confirming the priorities of a total of four village autonomy plans and deciding on whether to support or oppose one resident participatory budget project.

A presentation of works exhibiting the activities of the community center was also held, and works created by students in calligraphy classes, folk painting classes, etc. were displayed, adding to the attractions. In particular, students in the Korean dance, samulnori, and acoustic guitar classes, who boasted top-notch skills, showed off their honed skills, and then there were dance, taekwondo demonstrations, and celebratory performances of pumba janggu, enriching the event.

In particular, the festival on this day attracted attention by operating a rental and return center for reusable containers to create an eco-friendly festival without disposable products. In addition, as part of the ‘Village Living Lab’ project, booths were set up with eco-friendly themes such as making upcycle key rings, environmental activist pledge events, environmental quiz OX, and finding areas with garbage problems in our village, and a campaign was also held to urge village residents to take an interest in the environment.

The Songjukgol Cultural Festival was held under the auspices of the Resident Autonomy Council and the Association of Heads of Organizations. Resident Autonomy Council Chairman Lee Jae-won said, “Today’s festival and general meeting were meaningful occasions where residents came together to think and decide for the development of the neighborhood.” He continued, “I hope that residents will continue to show interest and opinions for the development of Songjuk-dong. I hope that the Songjukgol Cultural Festival, which was newly held this year, will become a place for harmony among the residents of our town.”
