Like father, like son: Bronny James is officially a player for the Los Angeles Lakers in the North American elite basketball league NBA.

Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka announced the signing of the 19-year-old son of superstar LeBron James along with first-round draft pick Dalton Knecht. Bronny James was selected 55th in the second round of the league’s annual talent selection last week.

The contents of the contracts have not yet been officially communicated. As ESPN reports, citing a source within the league, Bronny James’ contract will run for three years with a team option for a further year and a total salary of $7.9 million.

The father is also said to have signed

Only shortly before, several US media outlets had reported that his father LeBron James (39) had agreed to a new contract with the franchise. The best point scorer in NBA history will therefore continue to play for the Lakers for at least the next two years and earn 104 million dollars.

This means that, at least on paper, nothing stands in the way of the historic family reunion. The two would be the first father-son duo in NBA history to share the court – and that only about a year after Bronny James collapsed from cardiac arrest and was subsequently hospitalized.

Mixed premiere season

A few days later he was allowed to leave the hospital; he was diagnosed with a congenital heart defect and underwent surgery to correct it. In December he celebrated his comeback in college basketball; in his mixed debut season he averaged 4.8 points per game.
