The size of the South Korean delegation, ‘Team Korea’, for the 33rd Paris Summer Olympics, which opens on the 26th, has been confirmed. A total of 234 people, including 144 players and 90 officials including coaching staff, will take on the great challenge in Paris, France.

The final list of Korean athletes to be dispatched to the Paris Olympics, released by the Korea Sports Council on the 5th, includes 144 athletes in 22 sports. This is 60% of the 232 athletes sent to the Tokyo Olympics, and the smallest number since the 1976 Montreal Olympics (50 athletes). Swimming, diving, and artistic swimming combined will send the most athletes to Paris with 23 athletes, followed by shooting (16 athletes), handball (14 athletes), fencing (14 athletes), badminton (12 athletes), and judo (11 athletes) with more than 10 athletes participating in the Olympics.

In particular, the Korean team for the Paris Olympics consists of more female players than male players. 67 male players and 77 female players will participate, which is the first time in the history of Korean players sent to the Summer Olympics. The fact that soccer, basketball, and volleyball were eliminated in large numbers, and women’s handball was the only team sport to earn a ticket to the main tournament, had an impact on the composition of the team.

Among the Korean team coaches, there are seven foreigners. The women’s handball team’s coach Henrik Signel and three coaches are all foreign coaching staff members, while artistic swimming coach Oksana Pismenna (Ukraine), badminton coach Ronnie Agustinus (Indonesia), and sailing coach Will van Bladel (Netherlands) are also wearing the Taegeuk mark and helping the Korean players in their challenges.

The Korean team will hold a ceremony at the Olympic Hall in Olympic Park, Songpa-gu, Seoul on the 9th, and then head to Paris, France according to the schedule for each event. The main team will depart on the 20th.
