Spartak Moscow has said goodbye to Quincy Promes via a statement on its website. “The current agreement expires on June 30, 2024,” the Russian club reports. The 32-year-old attacker has been in Dubai for some time.

Promes was sentenced in absentia by the court in Amsterdam to six years in prison. He was on trial for involvement in the smuggling of over 1350 kilos of cocaine via the port of Antwerp. Last year he was also convicted for another offence: he was sentenced to 1.5 years in prison for a stabbing at a party in Abcoude.

‘Not possible to talk about extension’

Earlier this year, Promes was on a training camp in Dubai with Spartak. While the rest of the team flew back to Russia, Promes was arrested and taken to the police station. The Dutch Public Prosecution Service wants Promes to be extradited to the Netherlands because of his double conviction.

Spartak Moscow leaves the door open for a return of Promes. “Unfortunately, the circumstances are still in place and it is not possible at this stage to discuss an extension of Quincy’s activities at the club. At the same time, our club hopes that the parties can return to this issue in the future.”
