The women of SK Sturm Graz have to accept the departure of an absolute top performer. Mariella El Sherif (19) is moving to the German Bundesliga to join newly promoted Carl Zeiss Jena.
El Sherif has been playing for the “Schwoazn” since 2015. Last season she was named Goalkeeper of the Season in the ADMIRAL Women’s Bundesliga.
“Of course it is a loss for us to lose the goalkeeper of the season, but it is the right time for her to take the next step in her career and we do not want to deny her this opportunity. We were able to reach an agreement with Jena, generate a record transfer fee for a Sturm Damen player and so the positives outweigh the negatives for all parties in this transfer,” said sports director Michael Erlitz.
Recently, El Sherif has repeatedly made it into the squad of the Austrian national team. However, she has not yet played there.
