Step into History: Archery and Slingshots Day at Archéo’site

This Sunday, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., the Archéo’site is offering an “archery and slingshots” day. The Romae Sagittarii will introduce archery in Roman times between the 1st century BC and the 5th century AD. In a sagitarii camp, the archers of the Roman army will present the different types of straight and composite bows, arrows, bowstrings as well as the equipment and accessories of warriors such as quivers, gloves, thumb rings, etc. We will also discover the role of archers in the Roman army. Of course, children over 8 years old will not be forgotten because during the Become a Roman Archer workshop, they will even be able to try their hand at archery and take part in combat simulations of around 15 minutes with safe equipment.

At the same time, the Officina monetae association will present the “funditores” who were the slingers of the Roman army. The manufacture of sling bullets will be explained, in order to better understand the ancient gesture of the slingers.
